The Mi'kmaw Forestry Initiative (MFI) is a province wide effort to develop and promote a Mi'kmaq based forestry sector in which Mi'kmaw forestry stewardship and utilization are demonstrated, resulting in diverse opportunities in the forestry sector for Mi'kmaw individuals and communities.
In partnership with Unama'ki Institute Of Natural Resources (UINR),and the Confederacy of Mainland Mi'kmaq (CMM).

The objective of this project is to identify hotspots for Wood Turtle in Unama'ki, monitor and collect presence and absence data, record and report new-found individuals, protect their habitat and educate the public on the cultural and ecological significance of this species.
